Moxabustion Thearpy

   Needles & Needling

Moxa can be used for many conditions, it is great for frozen shoulders because it expels cold from the channels that run through the shoulder. Research shows that when used on particular Acupuncture points it can increase the white blood cell count, stop bleeding conditions such as nosebleeds or heavy periods and has many more uses.

When using Direct Moxabustion Therapy,  the Moxa is rolled into small cones, these may vary from the  size of a grain of rice to ½” high.

The Moxa is then put onto the Acupuncture point.

When a taper is applied to the Moxa;  it smoulders gradually so that the heat from it enters the Acupuncture point; when the skin feels pleasantly warm the Moxa is removed. Several Moxas may be applied to each point.

Artemesa Vularis ie Mugwort

Moxa is a woolly material found inside the seed pod of the plant Artemesia Vulgaris which is known as  Mugwort in this country.

Moxa comes in the form of a loose wool, compressed sticks like a cigar, or pre-made cones, or charcoal that is put  on needles.

There are many techniques for using this warming therapy I ‘ll out line the  commonest here.

In Japan Moxabustion is done as a therapy on its own, and is used to treat virtually every medical condition. Every Acupuncture point has

a recommended number of Moxa cones that can be used on it.

Moxabustion has been done alongside acupuncture treatments since Acupuncture was first recorded.

I will assess whether Moxabustion therapy is useful for your condition and demonstrate it’s use if it is part of your treatment plan.
